Animal Orthotic and Prosthetic Stories

🐾 Restoring Mobility, One Pet at a Time

AtĀ Specialized Pet Solutions, our mission is simple: we restore mobility—one pet at a time. Every animal deserves the chance to run, play, and live without limitations, especially after facing injury or limb loss.

We see the joy in both pets and their owners when movement returns. Whether your pet has a missing limb or a lifelong deformity, the transformation is powerful. Our custom devices rebuild confidence and comfort, helping animals move freely again.

Dog and Cat Prosthesis and Orthotics

🐾 Helping Dogs and Cats Move Again

Dogs and cats are the most common household pets worldwide. When they need an adaptive device—like a knee brace, hock brace, or prosthetic leg—finding the right fit is essential. It restores not just mobility, but also quality of life.

We’ve shared stories likeĀ Cassidy the DogĀ andĀ Oscar the Cat, but there are many more. These inspiring examples show how custom orthotics and prosthetics give pets their freedom back.

🐾 Edward the Pug

Born with three legs and a stump, Edward faced a tough start. American expert Martin Kaufmann designed a peg-leg and harness just for him. With his new leg, Edward’s mobility and quality of life improved dramatically.

🐾 Dymka the Cat

Found on a roadside in Siberia, Dymka lost her legs to frostbite. Scientists at Russia’s Tomsk Polytechnic Institute 3D-printed four titanium legs and implanted them into her bones. Today, she runs, climbs stairs, and shares her life with Rhyzik—the first cat to receive four titanium prosthetics.

Horse and Goat Adaptive Devices

🐓 Giving Farm Animals a Second Chance

Around the world, people care for horses and goats as both pets and livestock. Horses often help ranchers move cattle, while goats serve many purposes—from providing milk to managing weeds. In the past, a serious injury like a broken leg often meant the end for these animals. Thankfully, that’s no longer the case.

Stories likeĀ Riley the MareĀ show that with the right prosthetic device, horses and other farm animals can not only survive—but thrive. Advances in animal orthotics and prosthetics have made it possible to restore mobility, comfort, and quality of life, even after severe injuries.

🐐 Valentino the Goat

After breaking his front leg, Valentino underwent amputation. His first prosthetic lacked stability. Prosthetist Adam Williams stepped in and crafted a new leg using carbon fiber, titanium, and stainless steel. Now, Valentino lives a full and active life at Serenity Animal Farm in Alabama.

šŸŽ Bet on a Star

This horse survived Hurricane Irma but developed a severe infection from standing in floodwater. Doctors amputated his foot, and Dr. Ted Vlahos designed a prosthetic leg. Known as ā€œ81,ā€ Bet on a Star now serves as a therapy horse, helping others heal.

Adaptive Options for Air and Sea Creatures

🌊 Beyond Land: Helping Air and Sea Creatures, Too

Land animals aren’t the only ones who benefit from adaptive devices. Air and sea creatures sometimes need support too.

We’ve featuredĀ Beauty the Bald EagleĀ andĀ Fuji the Dolphin, both of whom faced life-threatening conditions. Beauty received a 3D-printed beak after a gunshot injury. Fuji was fitted with a custom tail that allowed her to swim again.

These stories—and many others—show what’s possible when compassion meets innovation.

🐧 Bagpipes the Penguin

In 2007, Bagpipes injured his left foot in a fishing net in the South Pacific. Veterinarians amputated the foot, and Bagpipes lived for years with just one. Eventually, doctors fitted him with a custom plastic foot. It helps him swim and includes a rubber sole for walking on land.

🦜 Pete the Parrot

In 2016, Pete lost his left foot after a fox attack. His owners rushed him to Penn Vet in Philadelphia, where doctors amputated the rest of his leg. They designed a custom prosthetic to help Pete live a full life. Since parrots can live into their 60s, this new leg gives Pete a bright future.

🐢 Goody the Sea Turtle

Goody lost a flipper after getting tangled in fishing gear. Scientists at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok rescued her and fitted her with a prosthetic flipper. She can now swim and maneuver with ease. While she may never return to the sea, her improved quality of life gives hope to other injured turtles.

🐊 Mister Stubbs the Alligator

Mister Stubbs lost his tail due to injuries from illegal animal trafficking. Alligators rely on their tails to walk and swim, so this was a major setback. Thanks to 3D printing, he received a custom prosthetic tail. Now, he moves naturally on land and in water.
