Custom Dog Knee Brace for CCL/ACL Injuries

A Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) tear—also known as an ACL tear—is one of the most common orthopedic injuries in dogs. This ligament stabilizes the knee joint, preventing internal rotation, hyperextension, and forward motion (known as the “drawer motion”). When torn, it can cause pain, instability, and lameness.

Our custom-made dog knee brace is designed to support healing from both partial and complete CCL tears. It helps reduce pain, improve mobility, and limit range of motion during recovery. Whether used before or after surgery, this brace offers reliable support tailored specifically to your dog’s anatomy.

Key Features:

  • Custom-fitted using a mold and precise measurements of your dog’s leg
  • Ideal for pre- and post-surgical support
  • Helps manage pain and stabilize the knee joint
  • Available in a variety of colors and patterns

🛡️ Engineered for Total Knee Protection Our dog knee brace—also known as an ACL leg brace or stifle brace—features two exclusive innovations for superior support: Achilles Relief Channel This built-in channel cushions the Achilles tendon and keeps the front strap in place. As a result, it reduces pressure on the tendon and helps prevent long-term damage or breakdown. Patellar Bar Stability System Our patellar bar eliminates drawer motion, the leading cause of CCL tears. By stabilizing the knee, it prevents both medial and lateral movement, offering full joint protection. In addition, we use the same high-quality materials found in human orthotics. That means your dog receives a brace that’s not only durable but also medically trusted.

📬 A Letter From Our Founder

Hello,
My name is Angela Boncz, and I’m the founder and CEO of Specialized Pet Solutions—a small business dedicated to creating custom orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) for animals.

I’ve loved animals my entire life and once considered becoming a veterinarian. However, I chose a different path and studied orthotics and prosthetics in college. After working in the human O&P field, everything changed when I adopted a puppy who needed costly surgery for a cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injury—similar to an ACL tear in humans.

Instead of surgery, I built her a custom brace. She healed completely. That was my lightbulb moment. I realized I could help other animals the same way. I began experimenting with dog knee braces at home while still working in human O&P.

A few years later, I adopted a three-legged mini pony named Prince. He was using a whiffle ball bat as a prosthetic. I made him a proper leg, and soon he was running and bucking like any other pony. That’s when I knew—this was my calling.

I’ve now been in the O&P field for over 20 years, with more than 15 of those focused on animals. After many years on the East Coast, I returned to my hometown in Eastern Washington to be closer to family. While most of my work involves dog knee and carpal braces, I’ve also created devices for horses, cows, goats, sheep, a camel—and even a lemur!

I live on a small farm south of Spokane, where I care for several special-needs animals. In 2019, I adopted a miniature donkey born with severe leg deformities. She was so tiny, I drove her home in the front seat of my pickup—an 8-hour ride with a baby donkey riding shotgun! With time and care, I was able to correct her legs about 90%. Today, she’s thriving alongside Prince and the rest of our animal family.

As a pioneer in the animal O&P industry, I believe our custom dog knee braces are the best on the market. Years of research, design, and hands-on experience have led us to create a brace that truly works.

Thank you for visiting our site. If you have a special pet with special needs, we’d love to help.

Warmly,
Angela Boncz, CTPO

🐶 Custom Dog Knee Brace for ACL & CCL Injuries knee brace for dogs

Support. Stability. Relief.

Our dog knee brace is designed to help pets recover from common knee injuries, including:

  • ✅ Full CCL / ACL rupture
  • ✅ Partial CCL / ACL rupture
  • ✅ Luxating patella

Whether your dog is recovering from surgery or avoiding it altogether, this brace offers targeted support. As a result, your dog can stay active and comfortable. In many cases, it also helps reduce pain and prevent further injury.

🦴 Why Choose Our Brace?

Unlike generic options, our brace is built with your dog’s full recovery in mind. It:

  • Stabilizes the entire leg, not just the knee
  • Prevents drawer motion, which often leads to ligament tears
  • Reduces lateral movement for better joint alignment
  • Protects the Achilles tendon with our exclusive relief system

In contrast to other braces, ours won’t strain the Achilles over time. Instead, it supports healing while reducing the risk of further damage. Because of this, your dog can move more naturally and confidently. Furthermore, the design promotes long-term joint health.

🛠️ Custom Fit, Built to Last  knee brace for dogs

Each brace is:

  • Custom-made from a cast of your dog’s leg
  • Built in Spokane, WA, using high-quality materials
  • Designed for comfort, durability, and long-term use

To begin with, you or your vet will make a simple cast. Then, send it to our lab. From there, we create a mold and build your dog’s brace around it. This way, we ensure a perfect fit for your pet’s unique anatomy.

🐾 Affordable, Conservative Care

Surgery isn’t the only option. In fact, many pet owners choose braces as a more affordable, non-invasive solution. Additionally, our braces help manage arthritis and joint pain in aging dogs. Over time, this can improve mobility and quality of life. For this reason, braces are a smart choice for long-term care.

We also build braces for:

  • Horses
  • Cows
  • Goats
  • Sheep
  • Pigs
  • Alpacas

5 reviews for Dog Knee Brace – Stifle Brace – CCL Brace – ACL Brace for Dogs

  1. Alison Hood

So helpful for my 100lb GSD! We spent over $1000 in x-rays, sedated drawer tests, and surgical consults, and ultimately it was a guess that there was a partial tear. My GSD is 5 years old and extremely active, spending $5500 on a surgery for a possible partial tear with an 8-12 week recovery time just didn’t seem feasible. We opted for the CCL braces and have been very happy with them, and our veterinarian is comfortable opting out of surgery indefinitely. They fit him perfectly, and only took him a little while to get used to. He is able to navigate stairs and run around to play frisbee wearing these with comfort and our peace of mind knowing his knees have added stability. If you are considering a brace, this is your sign to go for it!

  2. Michelle Gallagher

When I was at a loss how to help and provide support – my research brought me to this new business- new in that I had never heard of it. But glad I did! My phone call got quick results in that I got my dog in and fitted- Christy was wonderful and the fit and purpose were a priority ! I went back for a recheck and KUma got to break it in over the couple weeks and we use it on walks and during the day for the support!

  3. Michelle

and Angela did the fitting and recheck – sorry for my error – Christy called to check on Kuma last week. All around impressed and excited for this option when surgery is not the best option. The stifle brace is a fantastic option/alternative. It is great now that I can let Kuma be more mobile after her period of rest but also when she was resting and trying to get as much healing as we could and successful stability the stifle brace provided it. Only reason it’ is not 5 stars is definitely a learning curve for the dog- at leas mine but also the amount of fur my dog has with the Velcro makes it more challenging to get on and not get frustrated with the Velcro. Has nothing to do with the company /people – just breed of my dog I think

    Review left by Mary Odom

I can’t sing the praises of Angela loud enough! My labradoodle has a partial tear in his cruciate ligament. Surgery was suppose to be the only solution. A $7000 solution. After some research about braces I found Angela and specialized pet solutions. She can make just about anything! And each one is customized for your furry family member. Customer service is top notch! I never had to wait for a reply to my emails or phone calls. She is so patient and kind. Please if you have a special need for you pet (any kind of pet) do not hesitate to call them.

  5. My Jettson

We had a knee brace made for our dog who had an ACL tear, and were very impressed with the knowledge and expertise of the owner, and the quality of the product. They demonstrated both caring and patience with my dog, and with me when I needed further assistance with getting the brace on correctly . A GREAT level of Customer Service and professionalism. I would highly recommend this business if your pet needs an Orthotic or Prosthetic device made for them.

Dog Knee Brace FAQ's

Do Dog Knee Braces Work For Dogs?
Yes, our ACL leg brace for dogs is custom designed to fit every animal uniquely. A dog knee brace also known as a stifle brace is built to stabilize the knee and prevent the drawer motion which causes knee injuries in dogs. When the knee is stabilized and the drawer motion is minimized the ligament is allowed to heal over time. Click on this link to learn more.

Do Braces Help ACL Tears in Dogs?
Yes, our ACL leg brace for dogs  keep the knee from moving laterally and medially (back and forth and side to side). This gives the ligament time to heal. Often times without surgery.

How Many Hours a Day Should a Dog Wear a Knee Brace?
When your dog first receives their knee brace it should have a two week break-in period where the time is increased in increments daily, until they are wearing the brace during the day and taking it off at night.

What is The Best Brace For a Dog With a Torn ACL?
At Specialized Pet Solutions we have created a one of a kind dog knee brace that is unlike any other dog knee brace on the market. We have a built in patellar bar which keeps the knee from moving medial and laterally, it also has a built in Achilles relief channel that keeps the straps from applying pressure onto the Achilles ligament preventing further injury to your dog’s leg.

Can I walk my dog with a torn ACL?

Yes you can walk your dog with a torn CCL or ACL, however supporting the leg is very important when walking your dog with a knee injury.  Bracing your dog can keep them from over extending the leg and making the injury worse.  It can also help support and stabilize while the ligament is healing.
